Ask God to show you areas of your life that you do not rightly see Him.
Our life experiences often inform our understanding of who God is, which often leads to a wrong view of Him. God can not lie (Hebrews 16:18), so what He says about Himself is truth because He is truth (John 4:16). Every word God speaks is infallible; there is no hidden deceit or malice intent, ever. His ways are right, and His percepts trustworthy (Psalm 111).
Before God spoke the law to Moses, He spoke to Moses about who He is: “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion, and sin.” Understanding this eternal, never-changing truth about Him is crucial to our relationship with Him. We can fully surrender and completely trust in God, a God who can not lie and says of himself that He is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
We can rightly see Him through Scripture. Scripture is inerrant, God-breathed, revealing God's true nature and character. Reading Scripture daily and asking questions is a necessity. It is life-giving and the foundation in which we live our lives. It is absolute truth; every word is trustworthy. And it tells a better story than the one we live. Even if you live a great life, the story of God's love towards His creation is so much greater.
Start reading your Bible from Genesis 1:1 at the beginning, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal God's truth through His word. Take your time, and do not rush your time with God. Come expectant.
If you have questions along the way or need prayer, feel free to contact one of your church leaders. They would be happy to pray with you and answer your questions.
